Beirut, September 15 – Brazil's Minister of External Relations, Ambassador Mauro Vieira, inaugurated on Tuesday (15) the Machado de Assis Library of our Centre Culturel Brésil-Liban, in the presence of Ambassador Jorge Kadri and students and members of the Brazilian community resident in Beirut. On the same occasion, Minister Mauro Vieira received from the hands of Bianca Sallum, daughter of Brazilian diplomat Fernando Said Sallum, who died in 2009, a donation to the Library of over 4,000 books of her father's collection, which will be added to the current one of more than 2,600 books. The Library features works of various genres and in different languages other than Portuguese, such as French, English and Arabic, and offers a loan service to students and to the general Lebanese public. Level 9 student Warde Chedraoui read a poem and an excerpt of Machado de Assis. The Minister also visited the premises of the Cultural Centre and interacted with the children of the Portuguese as heritage language course.
